Making Progress

I have been using the machine and learning more about it. Cutting 1mm thick card works really well and I am cutting at current setting of 10 and speed of 25mm/s. Results are good. I have cut paper and have achieved good results. However, cutting corrugated cardboard has not been successful. It may be that I have been laying it on the bed and the focal length is not correct, so I am oing to experiment and will probably make and adjustable height table. I have ordered some 3mm thick aluminium sheet for the bed and I have bought some honeycomb so soon I will modify the machine so that at all times, the surface that I am cutting is the same distance from the laser lens.
I have cut some foamboard with satisfactory results and also cut shiny gold paper by cutting mirror image on the reverse side.
I have been cutting welded words from card very successfully and now I want to try engraving rubber stamps. I have ordered some laserable rubber so when that arrives I will try it out.
The machine is set to 1000dpi and the speed seems to work OK now.

Success at last!!!

After un-installing and re-instlling all the software several times, I finally noticed a change; there was no laser cutter icon on the task bar but Coreldraw engraving manager now appeared on my version of Coreldraw X6 that was already installed on my computer.By using Coreldraw engraving manager I could cut stuff as before. I noticed that my 50mm square was still being cut to 15mm square so I changed the dpi setting to 300dpi and the machine cut the square much smaller. I then changed it to 1000dpi and guess what? It cut a 50mm square! Bingo!!!
I then altered the speed in the properties dialog from 400mm/s to 200mm/s and the machine went faster so I am obviously on the right track. So I now have a machine that cuts what I want it to cut but not necessarily at the speed I want it to! I tried cutting some 0.75mm plastic but the plastic stuck itself back together before I could get the piece out. I need more research on this phenomenon which I knew could be a problem.
In trying to get the machine to cut I had tried all the machine types but I found that B1 was on the driver board so that is what I am now using, the instructions said use the M1 board!
If you have similar problems with a machine like this then drop me a line and I will share what I have learnt so far. When I have a little more time I will post photos and screen prints of where I am at.
